Otis Tobias Maguire It Is!!!

At long last, the question has been answered: WHAT THE FRIG IS TOBEY MAGUIRE’S SON’S NAME?
Otis Tobias. He was born on May 8, and I must say, the wait has been rather tantalizing!
Big sister Ruby Sweetheart is sure to live up to her name and take good care of baby Otis.
What do you think?
Otis recalls Redding, Spunkmeyer cookies, and elevators. It’s just the right mix of edgy and homey. It’s an old-man-sitting-on-the-porch-chewing-on-a-stalk-of-wheat kind of name. It’s jovial and approachable. And middle name is after pops. Tobey’s middle name, Vincent, is also after his father. Isn’t that nice?
Come to think of it, perhaps Otis grew out of a pet name for Jennifer, Maguire’s wife. Her surname is Meyer, so maybe Tobey calls her “Spunkmeyer”, and they came to Otis by way of association? OK. It’s a stretch. ETA: Perhaps not though– Sweetheart is evidently a nickname for mom as well.
Otis Tobias definitely gets my stamp of approval, not that the Meyer-Maguires need it!
I like Tobias, I’m less fond of Otis but the two together is too much of an almost rhyme to me. OtIS TobiAS, I don’t know I’d put the together. I’d almost prefer if they’d used Toby when naming the little one after his father.
I want to like Otis but I can’t. It reminds me of the man who killed John Walsh’s son. Its a grim association
but he was on a recent episode of Oprah (John Walsh) so the association with Otis is fresh on my mind. It goes nice with Ruby and Otis Tobias has nice flow.
I love both names separately, but don’t think they sit together well at all, both ending in is/as sounds. Otis has been on my shortlist of boy’s names for a while. I think Ruby and Otis sound really lovely together.
I definitely admire Toby (both individually and as a sister to Ruby); however, the combination irks me.

Oh, eh. I’m not on board the Otis train. To me it sounds like toothless dudes in overalls with no shirt underneath. Or that pug from the movie about the dog and cat. With a last name like Maguire you can go with so many very cool names that a kid could really grow into. So this is kind of disappointing.
But hey, it’s not my kid. I don’t have to like it.
My main association for the name Otis is the movie Milo & Otis, much as I am embarrassed to admit it! But anyway, perhaps as a result I find both names very cute.
Otis and Ruby as a sibset is charming and adorable. Both names are great on children AND adults – something I personally feel is important. I am not a fan of naming a baby Timmy or Toby or Millie, as if they will always be a cute baby and never a serious adult. Go with Timothy/Tobias/Millicent (or Emily/Emilia) on the birth certificate and give them options! When they are older they may want something a bit more distinguished and less cutesy.
Otis Tobias may lack flow, but apart from that it is a lot better than I was expecting from a couple who gave their first born child the middle name Sweetheart. Nice work, Maguires!
Lovely name. Thumbs up from me, especially the middle name Tobias, because that’s what I’ll be using if one of my twin bumps is a boy!

Although Otis is not my cup of tea, I definitely think it’s great with sister Ruby.
Otis isn’t one I’d choose personally (the names Milo and Otis BOTH remind me too much of the movie), but I can see its appeal, and I like it plenty for someone else. It’s just the sort of name stars should choose — it’s fairly unexpected, but it’s one that could make a comeback, especially given the popularity of Oliver and Oscar.
While I don’t like the flow of Otis Tobias, I love the idea of choosing a middle name after dad, so this is a case where meaning trumps flow.

While I don’t say this to offend, it will probably offend somebody. . .to be brutally honest I’ve been wondering why Tobey’s giving his kids names that sound like elderly african-americans. I mean Ruby and Otis?? The names sound as though Willard Scott should be wishing them a happy 100th birthday.
